Let’s Take A Look At Homoeopathy For Bad Breath

Article by Uchenna Ani-Okoye

Offensive smell from the mouth is a common complaint in the day to day medical practice. It mainly affects those who mingle with others very closely. Bad breath is noticed mainly by the friends & family members or some times person himself feel it and come to the doctor. Many bad breathers develop depression which forces them to be away from the society which in turn hampers their activities. The protein in the food debris is degraded through the anaerobic bacteria present in the mouth. Offensive odour is made due to release of some gases like hydrogen sulphide, skatol ect due to bacterial activity. Formation of a thin sticky membrane on the tongue favours bacteria growth. Bacteria are also seen in the crypts of tonsils, dental caries, dental pockets ect. Bad breath is associated with oral hygiene, caries, gingivitis, tonsillitis, tonsillar plaques, food habits, water uptake, tobacco chewing, stomach and liver diseases and ect.

Homoeopathy is a system of medicine introduced by a German physician Dr Samuel Hahnemann. Homoeopathy treats the diseased individual as a whole rather than treating diseased parts or organs. The physical, mental, emotional, social spheres of a person is considered for a permanent cure. This system believes that the diseases are caused due to the derangement of vital force which is an invisible power in every individual. In a healthy state the vital force maintains the equilibrium of mind torso and soul.throughout this man will have normal sensations and functions. When the vital force gets touched there will be external manifestations in the form of signs and symptoms. The imbalance in the torso functions makes a shelter for foreign organisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa ect) and allow them to proliferate &produce so called diseases. Homoeopathy believes that the real disease comes before the bacteria & viruses; hence the root cause of the disease has to be treated for a permanent cure. The antibacterial and antiviral agents only remove the secondary causes mentioned above.

Diseases are produced through noxious morbific agents called Miasms which are dynamic influences which affect the vital force. There are mainly three miasmas psora, syphilis and sycosis. These three causes are consented by other schools of medicine but called through different names. Psora causes functional disturbances, syphilis cause structural changes in the form of destructions and sycosis causes changes in the form of overgrowth. These three miasmas can act individually or in combined form producing different disease conditions.

To treat bad breath with homoeopathic medicine is easy when correct remedy in suitable dose is given. In the homoeopathic medical repertory through Dr Robin Murphy there are 140 homoeopathic drugs mentioned for bad breath. So just giving one drug for bad breath may not give beneficial result. To come to a correct remedial diagnosis we should have the symptomatology of the person. It is the total evidences of a person which includes mental generals, physical generals, particular indications ect. Bad breath is considered as a physical general symptom. Even though it comes only from a part of the body it affects the whole individual.

Symptoms related with appetite, thirst, bowels ect are included in physical generals. All signs and evidences (mental & physical) of the person are taken in detail. Knowledge about past illnesses, family history of diseases, food & bowel habits, relation to climatic changes and constitution ect are noted down in a systematic order.

In other parts of the world Homeopaths tend to start their own practices by advertising (eg in yellow pages) and opening their own consulting rooms. I have been to health food shops where there were resident homeopaths. Another opportunity might be to find other alternative medicine people and start a clinic. None of it is easy. Good luck.

I know it doesn’t make sense.
    And cant possibly work.
But it actually and physically helped me after the hospital gave up with my Rhuematoid Arthritis

But, I’m afraid scientists don’t have all the answers.
Even if they think they do.

I’m truly glad that you felt improvement after taking the treatment. Honestly, I am. Relief from chronic pain is not to be taken lightly, however it is achieved. In many ways it doesn’t matter how it’s achieved – for the individual, relief is all. But still, individual anecdotes are not proof of a treatment’s efficacy. For that you need properly conducted clinical trials. There have been many of homeopathy, and it has not been shown – when tested fairly and properly – to be more effective than placebo. It is important that we know this – for policy purposes, and to avoid being misled, or offering false hope.

Placebo is powerful Btw – it’s one of the things we don’t understand. We know it exists – just not how or why it works.

Since you bring it up, scientists in particular tend not to think that they know everything – regardless of how the media portray us. The media seem to find it easier to present science almost as religious instruction handed down by white-coated priests. But we really just want, as a rule, to find out how the world works – the things we don’t know. We acknowledge our ignorance and want to push its bounds back as far as we can. That’s why we’re scientists, and use the Scientific Method to investigate what we don’t know, and to attempt to avoid fooling ourselves or merely supporting our prejudices.

That said, we do know some things, thanks to the Scientific Method, which lets us avoid the pitfalls of astrology for astronomy, and alchemy for chemistry, for example. We can make plastics with very precise properties, we can make aircraft fly and water clean; we can make people well with antibiotics and surgery, we can improve crop yields to feed more people, better, and we know enough to send space probes across the solar system, plotting their trajectories with an accuracy measurable in metres. These are measurable successes, obtained by hard work and investigation. But we don’t know everything. It has been demonstrated though – using the same Science, and hard work – that homeopathy has no active effect, and is no better than placebo.

Less importantly, but in passing, the same understanding of chemistry materials that gives us Teflon, superglue, cancer medication, paints, high-performance ceramics, the materials we’re using to communicate now, and much of the fabric of modern Western society does not suggest a plausible mechanism by which the dilution of a substance such that not one molecule of it would remain could be medically effective. Homeopathy is also implausible given current knowledge.

Of course, Hahnemann could have been right about allopathy and succussion, two centuries ago, and his (not normally poor) acolytes may be on to something, but the evidence – gathered and analysed dispassionately, just like the evidence for gravity and the efficacy of antibiotics – says they’re not.

    Disturbing.

There is this huge disconnect that seems to be growing every time I turn around…

Scientists aren’t clever enough to comprehend how it works, therefore it doesn’t.
Scientists have been proved wrong so many times down the centuries, it’s frightening.

You seem to think "I am a scientist and cleverer than you, therefore I am right."

All medicines come basically from plants or are found in plants, therefore the witch doctors and old wives tales did happen to get it right.
Early 1900′s old ways of leeches and suchlike were dismissed as medieval and horrible and redundant and didn’t work.
Now they use leeches on wounds, and maggots even to eat away dead flesh.
    Progeress……or regression?

When will the time come that there are too many "anecdotal" reports that you can’t ignore them anymore?
Bury your head in the sand if you must.
Or shut your eyes, cover your ears and shout "La la la!!!" at the top of your voice.
    But it still works.
    You can’t change that fact.
You can only hide from it.
